It took me 17 years, but I finally appreciate the value of a dollar.
I went Texarkana with my mom, stepdad, boyfriend and uncle to Ta Molly's, a really scrumptious Mexican restaurant, and had a little birthday shindig. Thankfully my mother didn't make the waiters/waitresses sing to me this year. It would've been a very facepalmy moment.
After that we all traveled over to the mall where my eyes flashed little dollar signs as I window-shopped. Well, to say the least, window-shopping didn't last very long. My first time using my brand-spanking-new debit card, I bought a nifty little sundress to wear on my trip to Vegas tomorrow. I felt so proud to have a debit card and to slide it into the card reader like a 'grown-up' (Apparently, in my younger years, I thought this was the extent of adulthood.). It was the best feeling ever.....and then I bought an engagement journal for my boyfriend (and soon-to-be-fiancee, I know it's coming!) and I, and this time the feeling wasn't so grand as the balance in my Registrar became less and less.
To top the night off, we had to go to Target to buy me a swimsuit that was 'modest' enough to wear in Vegas (ha..modest...Vegas... XD) because, that's how my boyfriend is. He wants me to be classy, not trashy. So, I bought a bikini (because as long as it's around him I could wear a leaf and he'd be happy -___-;) and swim shorts and a tank top. Which, when you add that all up, is quite expensive for newly-debit-user me. It was painful the third-and final- time I swiped that card. I daresay until I have more greenbacks in the bank, I will be dreading the use of my Debbie. Yes, I've named her Debbie. After all we've been through today, she deserves a respectable name.
So, there went my day....and my paycheck for the this month. D:
